For my latest scale model kit, a 1/72 scale Ace Models Unimog fire truck, I decided to take it a stage further by opening up the side shutters, and adding a realistic interior. For this I scoured the internet for photos, and painstakingly recreated the various parts, including water tank, pump, compressor and generator in Tinkercad.
The main part is the combined inner frame with water tank and pump assembly, with a separate bulkhead for the front. Also featured are the slide-out generator, which fits to the side of the main assembly, and a free-standing compressor with hoses. This can either fit inside, or sit alongside the truck.
Because of their small size, I printed the parts in resin on my new Elegoo Mars 4, the slicing done using Lychee Slicer. This was a bit of a learning curve, so I have not included the gcode files as I'm sure they can be done better with fewer, better placed supports by a more experienced hand.
To fit the interior and ensure it is visible, the shutters on the side panels need opening up. I used a sharp knife to carefully slice around the edges of the doors, retaining the shutters to be cut down for the open position. Then, with everything painted, the main part of the interior can be dropped into the assembled back section, the bulkhead being glued centrally to the inside of the front. Finally, the compressor can be fitted inside with the generator protruding from the side.
