My latest project is the conversion of a standard Hornby Class 153 into one of the small fleet of Network Rail's inspection trains – but not just a running model – a fully operational video surveillance train, capturing footage of my layout streaming over the WiFi network.
The video is in two parts: setting up all the electronics using a Raspberry Pi running MotionEyeOS, and the modelling, with 3D printed parts, bespoke paint-job and my own hand-made decals.
Below you can find links to all the necessary downloads, from 3D printer .stls to the decal files.
The driver's-eye video footage is provided by a ZeroCam mounted in the cab, connected to a Raspberry Pi Zero running MotionEyeOS – all powered from the track voltage via an Adafruit PowerBoost UPS system.
The body conversion uses a Hornby Class 153 with 3D printed window blanks and generator cooling vents – the files for which you can find below along with a pdf for printing your own decals.
Here are the downloads for the supporting files including profile drawing, decals and stls for the window blanks, generator vents and cameras. The interior is the latest version, but still a work in progress.
